Republic Austria - Nationalbank 1945
The German Reichsmark currency circulated in Austria during World War 2. Inflation had made it very weak. With the economic break down of Germany and Austria there was much more money than goods to buy. The inflationary pressure had been increased by the issue of the allied money in Austria. To reform the money a new law - the Schillinggesetz (Schilling Act) - brought about on 30 November 1945. In it the new currency for Austria was regulated.
New bills were issued that looked similar to the bill from before 1938. The Austrian Reichsmark bills and Allied bills were exchanged into the new bills at a rate of 1 to 1. And the new Schilling became the only legal tender.
